The Mother Emanuel Memorial Foundation would like to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Ade Ofunniyin. Dr. O, as he was affectionately called, was the CEO of the Gullah Society and taught at the Avery Research Center and the College of Charleston. Dr. O passionately educated us about the Gullah culture and its link to the culture of west Africa. He was also the grandson of legendary artisan and blacksmith Phillip Simmons. He was loved by this community and will be missed.
