Friends and partners,
As we reflect on the progress and milestones of the past, we are filled with immense gratitude for your generosity and support. Your contributions have been instrumental in advancing the mission of the Mother Emanuel Memorial Foundation and bringing us closer to honoring the lives of the Emanuel Nine and promoting a future free from hate and racism.
The 2023–2024 years have produced remarkable achievement. With your help, we reached several critical milestones:
Breaking Ground on the Memorial Courtyard:
On July 22, 2023, we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Emanuel Nine Memorial Courtyard – a significant step in our journey to create a sacred space for reflection, healing, and inspiration.
Securing Essential Materials:
After extensive research, we procured marble from Vermont for the Memorial, ensuring the highest quality materials.
Site Preparation:
The entire Memorial Courtyard was made ready for the arrival of the Fellowship Bench and Contemplation Basin marble pieces. This work included all of the underground infrastructure necessary to ensure the Memorial Courtyard stands on a solid foundation.
Preview Bench Installation:
A prototype bench has been placed at the Calhoun Street entrance of Mother Emanuel AME Church, offering a glimpse of what’s to come.
Your steadfast support has allowed us to raise an astounding $19.9 million toward our $25 million goal. This funding has directly supported design and construction efforts, and we are excited to continue progress on the Survivors’ and Visitors’ Gardens, parking upgrades, and outreach programs. These spaces and initiatives will foster understanding, reconciliation, and forgiveness—values that are more vital than ever in today’s world.
This journey would not be possible without you. As you review our 2023–2024 Annual Report, we hope you feel the profound impact of your contributions. Your partnership has enabled us to move closer to creating a memorial that not only honors the past but inspires the future.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for standing with us. Together, we are making history and ensuring that the legacy of the Emanuel Nine continues to touch lives and transform hearts.
With deepest gratitude,
