SC Hate Crime Bill

South Carolina is one of three states in the country without a formal law protecting citizens from hate crimes. Having a hate crime law would enhance any punishment for a criminal offense if deemed a hate crime. Yesterday, a small group of house members heard from several people in favor of having a hate crimes law, including the pastor of Mother Emanuel AME Church and church members. The bill will be presented during the 2021 legislative session.
