On Sunday, June 21, Mother Emanuel Church and the Scott family came together to honor the Emanuel 9 and Walter Scott. A Unity March was led down Calhoun Street to Mother Emanuel Church where they held a rally calling for “Justice For All”. Mother Emanuel’s pastor, Reverend Eric Manning stressed the goals of the rally, “Continue to highlight the amount of discrepancies that continue to impact the black community and to make sure that our voices continue to be heard. As long as it keeps the narrative in the media, then we can enact social change, and perhaps change the hearts and the minds of the listening audiences. We share that common bond, and that common bond – which nobody ever wants to be part of – but it is one where we’re able to come together.”
Denise Scott, sister-in-law of Walter, spoke as well and said “…everyone to be equal, just like the Constitution said, and just like the Pledge of Allegiance.”
Rev. Manning added “It is refreshing when the city can put behind all of its differences and come together and untie in love and solidarity.”
